What does collaborative learning really look like? Students who work in a collaborative learning environment really depend upon one another to create a stimulating atmosphere where they learn from one another, and build upon the knowledge and skills that each student brings to the classroom.
At the start of the school year, I decided that I wanted to veer away from the standard “classroom novel”. Breaking the students into groups and having each group read a different book together took the power of learning out of my hands and placed it fully into theirs!
Today, the students did a character analysis on one of the main characters from their story. They had the opportunity to focus on one character as a group, their own character, or even have a small break-out group of their own to discuss their thoughts and opinions in.
