Last week, both 4th and 5th grade math groups finished their chapters. With the break coming up next week, I did not want to start a new chapter in the book, only to get half way through. So, with this in mind, I decided not to take the week off, but to challenge them. They took my challenge, and thoroughly impressed me.
We have introduced them to negative numbers, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. They learned how to multiply and divide fractions, and today, they learned how to add and subtract positive and negative fractions.
I have never seen a group of students take on such high level math so successfully this early in the school year. I’m so proud of them, and you should be too! Congratulate them when they get home and ask them to show you how to work with integers.
