We had two awesome hangouts today with schools from Texas and Minnesota.  For those of you who have not heard what we do, our students ask their students questions trying to narrow down the location of their school to the state they are housed in.

It’s really interesting to me to see what the kids pick up on.  One of our students immediately caught a “Ya’ll” slip out from someone in the Texas class, and their immediate preconception is that they must be from Texas.  Likewise, I heard some northern accents coming from the teacher from Minnesota.  I didn’t assume Minnesota right away, but I was guessing there, North Dakota, or Northern Wisconsin.

These preconceived notions that we have about people are where they are from are interesting things, and it amazes me that even our children pick up on them.  We as adults truly need to be aware of what we say, as we never know what little ears are hanging around listening.  Make sure to spread kindness!
